Have you ever seen (heard) something called 揅arillon? Well, it is REALLY a cool thing! I was standing right next to the player watching him playing for a while yesterday. Half mile away, when I was still down the hill could not even see the tower, I heard the music form its bells already. Right, the 揷arillon?was located on the top of this tower:
Standing under the tower, I was so immersed in the melodious rhythm. It sounded so 揹eep? but not loud, nor noisy. Then I was thinking, how many people were playing there, because I could tell that there were many chords. According to my knowledge about the Chinese 揃ell drum (Bian1 Zhong1)? there must be at least 4 people playing around the bells. However, when I climbed up the tower, On the top of it, I saw only厖厖厖?
He was so enjoying what he is playing ---- using both hands and both feet!!!!!! From his music book, I saw that was a normal one, however, all things suppose to be done by left hand on piano were finished by his feet. On the other hand, there were 2 keyboards on a 揷arillon? one on the top, for hands; one at the bottom, for feet. On the very top of the tower, I saw those bells, which were connected to the 揷arillon? Btw, it was REALLY loud there, but nice view too.
In his rest time, he told me that he has been playing carillon here for over 40 years.
