 My baby is back  [2004-11-5]

So many things happened these days. First for most…………….. hahah just kidding la. I did update my blog at all, cuz my laptop was down for a week
It was last week, when I was working on my essay; the screen turned itself off all the sudden. After I figured out that must be some hardware problems, I called IBM. Well, as I expected, things went smoothly after that. I did not meat it was any interesting experience at all, but at least IBM proved its best customer service again. Since I need to replace the LCD panel, they suggested me to send the machine back. Of course, they offered me the free shipping. However, what impressed me was that they gave me two of “next day air” air-born for both return and back Anyway, now I have a new screen, also new keyboard and new “fender”.
Well, another thing I have to say is the election. All of my roommates were so disappointed about the result, cuz they were all Kerry supporters. Some of then really hated Bush, some of them were Democratic supporters, and some just voted for “change”. Anyway, what is my opinion? I will say, I do not care~~~~~ hahahhaha~~~~ none of my business~~~ wakaka~~~

 Chicago Weekend  [2004-10-18]

I went to Chicago, the 3rd largest city in the states (after NYC, LA), in the past weekend.
Well, it was a real long time since I went to a “big city”, I mean Madison is a such a small college town; around the city, there is only corn farm and cow farm :-)Click-to-see-the-whole-pic~~
Before I went there, the image of Chicago in my mind was no more than “skyline”, “African-American ppl”, “Jazz”, and “Industrial Revolution”. After I got there, I found that, like other cities, Chicago was also only a typical American city. Yes, different from Chinese cities, most cities here are look alike: eat the same food, go to the same store, drive the same cars, live the same live style……….. However ,in china, one can easily tell the differences btw 2 cities. Anyway, it was still a exciting trip though.
First for most, China town! We had REALLY GREAT Chinese food there. We had a big dinner, and a afternoon tea, and both of the restaurants were Cantonese style. They were good, because most of their customers were Chinese. So they don’t need to modify their food to meet American ppl’s taste.
There were so many tall buildings in the down town. Most of them were not that old, because of the big fire I guess. Finding a parking spot was so painful (10-20/Hr), but we were so lucky to find two by the road easily, ahahah~~~~~saved a lot $$$.
It is not far from Madison to Chicago at all, around 2.5 Hrs. I think I’ll be there again soon, maybe thanksgiving? Let’s see.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Carillon  [2004-10-12]

Have you ever seen (heard) something called 揅arillon? Well, it is REALLY a cool thing! I was standing right next to the player watching him playing for a while yesterday.
Half mile away, when I was still down the hill could not even see the tower, I heard the music form its bells already. Right, the 揷arillon?was located on the top of this tower:

Standing under the tower, I was so immersed in the melodious rhythm. It sounded so 揹eep? but not loud, nor noisy. Then I was thinking, how many people were playing there, because I could tell that there were many chords. According to my knowledge about the Chinese 揃ell drum (Bian1 Zhong1)? there must be at least 4 people playing around the bells. However, when I climbed up the tower, On the top of it, I saw only厖厖厖? Click-to-see-the-whole-pic~~
He was so enjoying what he is playing ---- using both hands and both feet!!!!!! From his music book, I saw that was a normal one, however, all things suppose to be done by left hand on piano were finished by his feet. On the other hand, there were 2 keyboards on a 揷arillon? one on the top, for hands; one at the bottom, for feet.
On the very top of the tower, I saw those bells, which were connected to the 揷arillon? Btw, it was REALLY loud there, but nice view too.

 Classical Chinese literature  [2004-10-2]
Did I tell you guys that I’m taking a classical Chinese literature (中國古典文學 class this semester? If not, now you know. I am taking this class to fulfill my “ethnic” requirement. My professor is a old white guy, and I’m pretty sure that he knows much more about Chinese history, culture and politics than me (probably you, too). This class is really interesting, cuz most of my classmates are white, and of cuz, the text book is in English. Somehow, I found the English translate was MUCH easier to read than the original classical Chinese version.Click-to-see-the-whole-pic~~

 no news~~~~~  [2004-10-1]
Don抰 have any particular news these days. It is getting colder and colder here, this morning, when I work up @ 6:30, to make the 7:45 class, it was only 2 degree outside!!!! Well, but it was like around 20 at noon though, not too bad.
Err厖厖 anything else~~~~
Well, remember something funny yesterday. It was in the psychology class, while we were talkin?about 揷ompensatory conditioned response (CCR)?of drug effects regarding conditioning response. The professor stated that 揷ues in environment elicit CCRs, which effect opposite of normal drugs effect.?搕he same environment may neutralize the drug抯 effect, like Morphine? Then a stupid guy asked something like: so if we have weed (marijuana), and get hot in one bar, for a while,, then there will be some 揅CRs? So if we change a place, with the same amount of weed, I can get even hotter??? I was laughing so loud after that, hahaha~~~~~

 Rochdale House History  [2004-9-21]

John Davis, his Vietnamese wife Kim, and their son Kevin is going back to Vietnam tomorrow. So after tonight’s dinner, John gave us a “house history”. Say something about John 1st. He is an American, in his 40s’, I guess. He was here for 20 Yrs since 197x (Wow~~~~~). After that, he traveled to Vietnam, met his wife, had their son:-) However, he does come back to this house sometimes.
Well, this house was firstly built in 1891 (Wow~~~~~~~~) by a local family with 2 sons and 2 daughters. On the other hand, the “Rochdale men’s Co-Op” was founded on 193x by a professor from UW. In the 70s’, it became an international co-op. Then there were ppl from everywhere in the world settle down here because of its inexpensive rent, and multi-culture character. He also told us how did them (he) remold the house by themselves.
Well, the story was much more interesting, if my English could be better ^_^
Btw,, I also heard there were many famous ppl used to live her;; also a prime minister of Bhutan was John’s roommate; many of couples met here, and finally got married.
anyway , I love this house.
